Tell me about it…

Hey all,

What’s going on out there amongst the “Battle of the Books”?

What book are you reading?

How many have your read so far?

What’s your goal?

Did you know that if you are the first place winning team and you already have an e-reader of any kind, I’ll buy you a gift card for the amount of a NOOK to support your reading?

When you are finished with assignments in your class or are finished testing I bet your teacher would let you READ!! Take that time to read your books for the battle!!

What can you do to pump up your team to read?

How do you remember information about the books throughout the weeks?

Talk to me, talk to me, talk to me,…..:)

School Wide Read – Letters to a Bullied Girl

This year’s school wide read is, Letters to a Bullied Girl by Olivia Gardner with Emily and Sarah Buder.

This book consists of letters to Olivia Gardner who was mercilessly bullied throughout school.  Just when she felt all hope was gone, sisters Emily and Sarah Buder began a letter writing campaign to help Olivia realize that there are more people who care about her than people that want to hurt her. This book is comprised of perspectives; perspectives of bullies, victims, bystanders, parents of bullies, parents of victims… The first of its kind, this book gives hope to bullies that they can change, courage to bystanders to speak up,  support to victims  to let them know that it won’t last forever, and to all of us to be more aware and take action.

In connection with the novel students have completed writings, watched videos and dialogued, role played, identified vocabulary, and experienced activities to get to know one another in their advisory classes to be proactive and defeat bullying in our school and community.

“Intersections”, an assembly created and promoted by Officers Burrus and Williams of  the Las Vegas Metro Police Department invited the students of CMS to grasp a better understanding of the effects of bullying, not only on the victims, bystanders, and bullies,  but their families as well.
